There was no untoward incident in Gandacherra following deployment of massive security forces and presence of top police officials on the spot and revewing the situation round the clock. But reporters who had visited the violence torn sub division said situation remains extremely volatile and if the security arrangements showed any loopholes Gandacherra would go up in flames again.

Local Bengali villagers who were targeted and lost their homes and business establishments at the fury of communal tension in the wake of death of one Parameswar Reang alleged that miscreants from a resettled colony took the most aggressive part in arson and violence.

As it happened the local MLA Nandita Reang also did not visit the affected families, reporters after Gandacherra visit said.

However, in the meantime state government made massive reinforcement with TSR and CRPF and set on motion round the clock ‘mobiles’ by police and security officials, sometimes often commanded by senior officers who had been camping in the sub division. IG Law and Order Soumitra Dhar had been camping in the subdivision and monitoring the situation for the last two days.

Besides mobiles police pickets were also erected at sensitive and vulnerable areas, especially mixed populated localities. Internet connections had already been snapped out and public movement restriction orders under the new laws were enforced.

The Civil administration extended supports to the affected families and opened shelter for those who lost their homes in the violence.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha was monitoring the situation closely.

TIPRA Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has gone to Gandacherra and spoke to the villagers at Jagabandhupara on Saturday morning .  He, however, did not visit villages where Bengalis were affected and lost homes. He was accompanied by Purna Chandra Jamatia, CEM,  Runel Debbarma, EM, Dolly Reang, EM, Rajesh Tripura, EM, Paul Dangshu and Bhabaranjan Reang.

In Agartala BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee said the state government and the ruling party as well were determined to prevent further escalation of the unfortunate situation.

“I have already spoken to our leaders there and they were also trying hard to bring peace and harmony”, he said and added that a delegation of the BJP would be also visiting Gandacherra under the leadership of senior party leaders.

Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar also spoke to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and asked him to bring back the situation to normalcy at the earliest.
