Ravi Gandhi, BSF ADG of the Eastern Command- who is on a two-day visit to Tripura- visited BOP Boxanagar and adjoining border areas. 

Accompanied by the IG BSF Tripura Frontier Patel Piyush Purushottam Das the ADG took a prahari sammelan at BOP Boxanagar in which he  interacted with the Officers and Seema praharis including the mahila praharis  on the various operational issues being faced at the ground level.

The ADG also directed the field commanders to take all necessary steps to curb the menace of trans-border crime, including illegal migration of Bangladeshi nationals. After Following the Prahri Sammelan, Gandhi along with the IG visited Nagar village in Boxanagar, which is ahead of border fence near gate number 185A.  He was given a warm welcome there by the villagers.

The BSF top brass had a detailed interaction with the villagers and enquired about the problems being faced by them and he assured them of all assistance from the border guards. It is pertinent to mention here that there are 43 such villages in Tripura having more than 4,600 people living ahead of fence. These villages are highly prone to border crimes from trans-border criminals and challenging in terms of border management. The ADG further left for Kolkata in the evening

In the meantime, on Friday on specific information that three Bangladeshi were present ahead of fence in area of BOP New Nidiya  for crossing over to the Indian side , a special patrol was sent in the suspected area.  At about 5.30 am on seeing the patrolling party, Bangladeshi nationals hiding in the jungle started running away towards Bangladesh village -Nawapur . The patrolling party chased the Bangladeshi illegal immigrants and managed to apprehend one Bangladeshi Robiul Islam, 35 yrs , a resident of  Broshonnassi, Khulna District.

Earlier, on Friday acting on a specific information BSF of Sabroom apprehended three male Bangladeshi nationals in general area Sabroom. On questioning they revealed that the Indian tout was facilitating illegal crossing. The tout Thaikai Mog of Doulbari was then detained along with one suspected guide named Shiplab Das. They are suspected of being part of a large network involved in human trafficking. The above detained persons were handed over to PS- Sabroom for further interrogation.
