Two Indians who had been held in Bangladesh jail were released but could not come home as yet. They were released from a Bangladesh jail after serving an eight-month long imprisonment. They are brothers and from Bidyabil area under Padmabil in Khowai are yet to return to their homeland.

Gurupadma Debbarma and his younger brother Rajiv Debbarma went to work on their own agri-land on February 27 last. Their land is situated on the other side of the barbed wire fencing but on the Indian Territory. Debbarma brothers went to work after obtaining necessary permission from the on duty BSF.

However, Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) jawans took the duo to a nearby Police station in Bangladesh and produced them before a Court on February 28 last. They were booked under Passport Act of Bangladesh 1973. Later, the Court sent Gurupadma and his brother to Maulavibazar jail.

To ensure their safe return to home land, family members sought help, in vain, from the BSF authority as well as civil and Police administrations.

Even as they obtained bail on March 4 last, they were not released from the jail. After spending around eight months in jail, recently Debbarma brothers were released, but family members and the administration are yet to know the exact date of return of Gurupadma and Rajiv Debbarma.
