It was then West Agartala Police station personnel along with women cops detained them. During check they were found to be males. They hailed from various parts of the city and aged between 20-25 years.

“They were detained to perevent any anticipated crime. Since they were impersonating as women there could alawys be chance of alluring males and then mugging or robbing them. Their detention was no way related to their sexual preferences”, said a police official”, He said, no one cannot be detained or arrested or harrassed for being a member of the LGBT. It was a prevenative detention in a sense.

“”But we had to check it out.  And we are checking the youths past from across the state. So far there was no criminal record against any of them.”, he said and added : “In Agartala we do not usually see the LGBT people openly mixing in the society or moving around. There are some Third Gender people but they are all known faces and they do not also act like the way the youths were found to be doing– visiting city hotel bar or mingling and dancing with common people freely”. “Naturally we were suspicious and we had to act”.

The officer said if the youths were found not anyway connected to any criminality they would be released immediately.
