The Government of Tripura has announced that former Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswa Bandhu Sen, will be honoured posthumously with the prestigious Tripura Bhushan Samman during the forthcoming Statehood Day celebrations. The announcement has been widely welcomed across political and social circles as a fitting tribute to a leader whose contributions to legislative democracy and public life left a lasting impact on the state.

The state-level award ceremony will be held on Wednesday at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, where several distinguished individuals and institutions will be felicitated for their outstanding service and achievements across diverse fields including education, arts, science, entrepreneurship, sports, and social service. The programme is expected to witness the presence of senior government officials, cultural personalities, academics, and members of civil society.

Alongside Biswa Bandhu Sen, renowned scriptwriter Biplab Goswami will also be conferred with the Tripura Bhushan Samman, recognising his significant contribution to Indian cinema and storytelling. Goswami’s work has brought national attention to regional narratives, thereby enhancing Tripura’s cultural identity on a broader platform.

The state’s highest civilian honour, the Tripura Bibhushan Samman, will be awarded posthumously to eminent educationist Dhirendra Chandra Dutta. Known for his lifelong dedication to academic excellence and institution-building, Dutta played a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of Tripura and mentoring generations of students.

Several other notable awards will also be presented during the ceremony. The Sachin Dev Burman Memorial State Award will go to acclaimed folk artist Surya Kumar Debbarma, popularly known as Sadagar Debbarma, in recognition of his efforts to preserve and promote traditional folk culture. The Maharani Kanchanprabha Devi Memorial State Award will be conferred upon Champa Das of Kamalghat for her contribution to social welfare.

In the field of science and environmental studies, Dr. Arijit Das, Associate Professor and Head of the Department at Bir Bikram Memorial College, will be honoured for his academic research and commitment to environmental awareness and education.

The awards also highlight Tripura’s growing focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, and grassroots development. Gautam Das of Purba Pratapgarh will receive the Good Citizen Award for his community service. In entrepreneurship, Atkalapa Biotechnology LLP of Nagichhara will be recognised as the Best Startup, while Dhanbabu Halam of Simbukchak, Salema, will receive the Best Agriculture and Horticulture Entrepreneur Award.

Further honours in allied sectors include Krishna Debbarma of Mohanbhog, Sepahijala, as Best Fisheries Entrepreneur, and Ratan Debnath of Bishramganj as Best Animal Husbandry Entrepreneur. Contributions to traditional livelihoods will also be recognised, with Uttam Kumar Das of Teliamura being honoured for excellence in handloom, handicraft, and apiculture.

In industrial enterprise, Dipak Dutta of Kanchanbari, Fatikroy, will receive the state award, while Satyabrata Biswas of Purba Yogendranagar will be recognised for developing the Best Mobile Application, highlighting Tripura’s growing digital innovation ecosystem.

The Best Cooperative Society Award will be presented to Tulamura PACS Ltd. of Gomati district, while Laxman Malakar of Belonia will be honoured as Best Educationist. In sports, Sriparna Debnath of Natinagar will receive the Best Sportsperson Award, acknowledging her dedication and achievements in competitive sports.

Officials stated that the comprehensive list of awardees reflects Tripura’s commitment to celebrating excellence across all sectors of society. The posthumous recognition of leaders like Biswa Bandhu Sen underscores the state’s respect for individuals whose service continues to inspire democratic values and social progress.
