A meeting of the National Council (NC) of National Platform for Small Scale Fish Workers (NPSSFW) has begun on Friday and will be continued till Saturday in New Delhi.

Sudip Majumder, Chairman of Bagma Agri Producer Company Limited (BAPCL) represented Tripura in which the fishing communities and their leaders from 18 states of India along with supporters of NPSSFW and others participated.

Majumder said the meeting deliberated on Fishing Communities’ Right to Water; Indian Marine Fisheries Bill, 2021;E-Shram Registration of Fish Workers. The meeting also took stock of the present situation and decided the future road map with programmes of action.

The fishery sector is an important sector in the state Tripura and BAPCL is doing engaged in the sector with the help of NABARD sponsored schemes, Punjab National Bank for the benefit of fish farmers in Killa and Tepaniya R.D Block areas of Gomati District.

Babul Debnath, of BAPCL said that the initiative taken by BAPCL under fishery had been giving encouragement to farmers because the farmers were getting loan facility from bank for fishery activities with the help of KCC. The farmers were also getting advice from BAPCL. In this case the organisation like ICAR and Fishery College jointly conducted training programme for the benefit of fish farmers..

The Economic Review of Tripura said fishery sector had the capability to boost the income of the Farmers and as well as the income of the State. The doubling of farmers’ income would also be possible through the development of the Pisciculture sector in the State. The State would continue to support the fish farmers and adopt suitable advanced aquaculture techniques for further augmentation of fish production in the State. 

New strategies would be taken to fully utilize the water bodies of the State for scientific fish farming. With spontaneous effort and planning fisheries sector will emerge as the most successful livelihood generating sector in the State and shaping the socio-economic status of the people, reveals the Economic Review of Tripura.
