In a National Press Day event at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy emphasised the pivotal role of the media in upholding democracy.
The programme, organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) department in collaboration with the Agartala Press Club, saw the minister applaud the media’s significance and the government’s media-friendly approach.
Minister Roy encouraged journalists to work sincerely and responsibly, ensuring the government’s developmental endeavours reach even the most remote areas. National Press Day greetings were extended, and the finance minister discussed various initiatives aimed at journalists’ welfare.
High Court of Tripura’s Justice Arindam Lodh, Agartala Press Club President Jayanta Bhattacharyya, Secretary Ramakanta Dey, ICA Department Secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, and Director Bimbisar Bhattacharjee were present.
The programme’s second part featured a panel discussion chaired by Justice Lodh on ‘Media in an Era of Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of Expression as a Driver of All Other Human ghts.” The panel, including Advocate General Siddhartha Shankar De, Editor of North East Colours Sanjib Deb, and Executive Editor of Tripura Times Manas Pal, explored the positive and negative aspects of artificial intelligence in the media sector. Discussions encompassed freedom of the press, constitutional rights, and ethical implementations of AI across various spheres of life.
