Even as India is emerging as the third biggest economic leader of the world with fast changing investment and industrial development landscapes, Justice SuryaKant, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, emphasized the importance of judicial expertise in swiftly resolving commercial disputes.
Speaking at the 10th Annual Judicial Conclave organized by the Tripura Judicial Academy, he noted India’s rapid economic growth and the emergence of new business opportunities, stressing the necessity for efficient dispute resolution mechanisms. Justice Kant highlighted the role of the judiciary in ensuring the enforcement of the rule of law, particularly in attracting industries to India.
Acknowledging the demand for expedited resolution of commercial cases, Justice Kant underscored the significance of judicial proficiency in addressing these disputes. He praised Tripura’s effective case settlement record and emphasized the pivotal role of district judiciary in delivering justice.
Furthermore, Justice Kant addressed the issue of prolonged case pendency in courts, asserting that timely disposal of cases is a fundamental responsibility of judges and courts. He advocated for proactive measures to expedite case resolution, including encouraging discussions and promoting judicial participation in training programs.
Justice SuryaKant also stressed on the need for strengthening the District courts as they are first choice for common people who seek legal respites from any disputes.
District Courts are the place of justice delivery mechanism where common people’s hope and aspirations rest. These District courts thus should be strengthened and their expertise and efficiency should be upgraded”, he felt.
The event witnessed the inauguration of the new court building in Kamalpur, Dhalai district, along with the release of the annual report of the High Court of Tripura and the launch of the ‘Shaishab’ project. Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh lauded the High Court’s decade-long journey, highlighting its commitment to swift case disposal. He noted a significant reduction in pending cases, attributing it to the efforts of Lok Adalats.
The conclave featured technical sessions on criminal jurisprudence and the jurisdiction of commercial courts. Renowned legal experts and judges discussed various aspects of trial procedures, new legislation in criminal laws, and the jurisdictional framework of commercial courts.
Among the dignitaries present were Judge in-charge of Judicial Education and Training Justice Arindam Lodh, Advocate General Siddhartha Shankar De, and Chairman of Tripura Ratan Dutta. The conclave provided a platform for insightful discussions and exchanges on critical legal issues, aiming to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the judicial system in resolving disputes.
