In a significant move towards sustainable energy, the Tripura government, led by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, is actively pursuing plans to connect every household and institution with solar power. Speaking at the 2nd Triennial Conference of the Power Engineers’ Association, Nath outlined the government’s commitment to enhancing the state’s power sector through renewable energy initiatives.

Highlighting the key initiatives, Nath announced the ambitious plan to establish an electric power storage system in the state, a first-of-its-kind development in the North East region of India. This comes in tandem with efforts to boost solar power connections, aiming to reduce dependence on traditional energy sources.

Moreover, the government is eyeing increased power exports to neighboring Bangladesh, fostering regional energy cooperation. Nath emphasized the role of power engineers and employees, commending their efforts in ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the recent festive season.

The broader vision includes leveraging the power sector to propel economic growth in the state. Nath praised the overall development initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led government in Tripura, citing improved connectivity with national highways, enhanced flight operations, and increased train services.

Underlining achievements in housing and water supply infrastructure, Nath revealed that 3,63,000 houses were provided in rural areas under the PM Awas Yojna in the last five years, a substantial increase from the 72,000 houses provided in the 25 years preceding 2018.

The minister’s statements underscore the government’s commitment to self-reliance in power and overall development. The focus on renewable energy and innovative solutions like electric power storage positions Tripura at the forefront of sustainable energy transitions in the region.
