In the midst of electoral fervour, Tripura’s political landscape is undergoing notable transformations as various parties gear up for the upcoming contests.
The opposition CPI-M has put forward former MLA Rajendra Reang as its candidate for the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat, while state Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha will be vying for the Tripura West Lok Sabha seat. Both parties, united under the INDIA bloc, are presenting a joint front against the ruling BJP in the parliamentary elections.
For the Ramnagar Assembly seat, the CPI-M has named former MLA Ratan Das as its contender. Meanwhile, the ruling BJP, steadfast in its ambition to maintain dominance in Tripura, has nominated Kriti Singh and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for the Tripura East and Tripura West seats, respectively.
Of notable significance is the BJP’s strategic decision to replace its previous candidates, Pratima Bhoumik and Rebati Tripura, signalling a calculated move in their electoral strategy.
Adding an intriguing twist to the unfolding narrative is the emergence of Kriti Singh, a former Congress supporter hailing from Chhattisgarh and a member of the royal dynasty, as a BJP candidate. Singh’s association with the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) and her familial connections to Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman, the party’s leader, hold the potential to sway voter sentiments in the region.
As the electoral process gains momentum, Tripura braces itself for a hotly contested battle, with political parties vying for supremacy in both parliamentary and assembly constituencies. With heightened security measures in place and intense political campaigns underway, all eyes are fixed on the electoral outcomes that will shape the future trajectory of Tripura’s political landscape.
