ECI Releases Final Tamil Nadu Electoral Rolls; Voter Count Drops to 5.67 Crore

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has published the final electoral rolls for the state of Tamil Nadu following the completion of the enumeration exercise under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). According to the new roll, the number of voters, which was six crore 41 lakh has reduced to five crore 67 lakh. Speaking in Chennai, Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said that the full election commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is likely to visit the State on 26th and 27th of this month. She said, the commission will meet the District Collectors, Superintendents of Police and the political leaders.
The CEO also said that updation of the rolls will continue until the elections are announced after due verification process. She said that anyone can check their names in the website. The CEO said that the biggest constituency in Chennai district continues to be Shozhinganallur assembly constituency with five lakh 36 thousand and 991 electors and the lowest electorate is Harbour Assembly Constituency with one lakh 16 thousand 896 electors.
Thiruvallur district has the highest number of electors with thirty one lakh, 57 thousand, 413 voters followed by Chennai which has 28 lakh, 30 thousand 936 voters. Ariyalur district has the minimum number of five lakh 22 thousand 954 electors.
In December last year, the ECI published the integrated draft electoral rolls of Tamil Nadu after the enumeration form period of the Special Investigation Revision of the electoral roll. In the draft electoral roll, more than 97 lakh electors were removed. Earlier in October last year, when the Commission froze the electoral rolls, the total number of electors in the State was five crore 43 lakh. The period for filing claims and objections opened on December 19 and continued till January this year.
