EAM S Jaishankar Calls for Zero Tolerance Toward Terrorism, Criticises Sanctions at G20 Meeting

Must Read

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that those who are fighting against terrorism are performing a service to the international community. Presenting the case of Operation Sindoor at G20 Foreign Ministers meeting in New York, Mr Jaishankar described terrorism as a threat to development and peace. He further said that given the extensive networking among terrorists and those who act against them actually render a larger service to the international community as a whole. He stressed the need for the world to show zero tolerance toward terrorist activities.

The External Affairs Minister also criticised the world’s double standards in applying sanctions. He pointed out that sanctions disrupt supplies, logistics and increase costs, creating pressure on nations. He further said that making energy and other essentials more uncertain in an economically fragile situation will help no one.

Mr Jaishankar pointed out how peace and development have both suffered, especially affecting the Global South due to soaring prices of energy, food, and fertilisers.

The Minister also underscored that India’s focus is on the correlation between international peace and global development.  He suggested that countries which are capable of bridging opposing sides in conflicts should be used by the international community to promote peace and maintain it. He highlighted the importance of involving such nations in resolving complex global threats. He also called upon the collective efforts to reaffirm peace as the foundation for sustainable development and to uphold multilateralism as the key to a safer and fairer future for all.
