For efficient implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission the Union government awarded the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) department of the state with Rs 100 crore incentive grant. The grant will come from the Union Jal Shakti Ministry.
DWS Minister Sushanta Chowdhury after holding a high level meeting of the Mission said, “the incentive came as a recognition of the success of the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ in Tripura during 2021-21”.
“We are committed to the implementation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Har Ghar Jal” slogan. The department is going whole hog to bring clean drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission to every citizen by this year”, he added.
Chowdhury stressed on the sincerity and efficient management to achieve the goal- that too without compromising the quality of the works.
The meeting also discussed in detail the setting up of Iron Removal Plant (IRP) in different parts of the state to alleviate the problem of iron in water.
Among others, Rajiv Debbarma, the Chief Engineer of the department, all the Superintendent Engineers of the department and Executive Engineers of different divisions were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, a government press release said, free drinking water connections were provided to 3,82,856 houses in rural areas of the state under Atal Jaldhara Mission from November 28, 2018 to April 24, 2022
Total 1,946 houses in rural areas were provided free drinking water connections under this scheme from April 1, 2022 to April 24, 2022, the release said.
The figures included 271 houses in North Tripura district, 481 houses in West Tripura district, 268 in Unakoti district, 105 in Sepahijala district, 190 in Dhalai district, 296 in Gomati district, 134 in Khowai district and 201 houses in South Tripura.
