Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha called upon the women of the state to take an active role in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election and contribute to the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by winning both seats and presenting two lotuses as a gift to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024. Dr. Saha made this appeal during his presence at the ‘Vidushi Mahila Sanmelan,’ organized by Pradesh BJP Mahila Morcha, to commemorate Prime Minister Modi’s nine-year tenure.
During his address, the Chief Minister emphasized Prime Minister Modi’s unwavering efforts in implementing welfare measures to uplift the socio-economic status of women in the country. He urged the women of Tripura to follow in the Prime Minister’s footsteps and highlighted the state government’s initiatives for the betterment of women.
Under the present government, Tripura has reserved 33 percent of government jobs for women, aiming to prioritize their welfare, he said adding that the number of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the state has seen a significant rise, increasing from 4,100 in 2018 to 39,672 in 2023. This development has positively impacted approximately 354,000 women across Tripura.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the financial support provided to SHGs through the Community Investment Fund, with an allocation of Rs. 237.86 crore to over 26,558 SHGs. Additionally, a revolving fund of Rs. 21.13 crore has been granted to more than 18,448 self-help groups. Furthermore, the state government has ensured free education for women in all colleges, ensuring their access to quality education.
Dr. Saha acknowledged Prime Minister Modi’s consistent efforts in transforming the nation’s welfare landscape. He commended the establishment of 390 new universities since 2014, supplementing the existing 723 across the country. The Chief Minister also emphasized the development of communication systems, including national highways and railways, in various regions. He praised the Act East policy, which has focused on the development of Northeast India, resulting in significant benefits for Tripura.
Expressing his vision for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election, Dr. Saha stated, “The Lok Sabha election is approaching, and we have to gift two lotuses to PM Modi as a token of our support by winning both seats in the state. The women of the state have to play an important role.”
The event witnessed the presence of state BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya, Minister Shantana Chakma, Legislative Assembly Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, State BJP General Secretary Papiya Dutta, and several other dignitaries.
