Dr Baharul Islam Majumdar, eminent agricultural scientist who played a key role in popularizing SRI type paddy farming and Pijush Kanti Sarkar  were conferred with Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar award on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.  

Another eminent gynecologist and professor of AGMC Dr Jayanta Ray was accorded with coveted Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Samman.  Maharani Tulsibati award was given to Principal of Maharaja Bir Bikram College- Prof Dipannita Chakraborty (Roy Chowdhury) and Shyamaprasad Mukherjee award was given to late Amar Ranjan Gupta(posthumous). The award has been received by his son Basab Gupta.

Dr Majumdar is also a senior BJP leader of the state.

The awards were handed over to the recipients in a colourful programme at Rabindra Sata Barshiki Bhawan on September 5 by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

Besides Chief Minister also present on the occasion were Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Revenue Minister N C Debbarma, Chief Secretary Kumar Alok, Higher Education Council chairman Auronoday Saha Director of Elementary Education Chandni Chandran, Higher Education director N.C. Sharma and others.

As many as 39 teachers, nine schools and two colleges have been awarded in the programme.
