A group of indigenous farmers from a remote village under Teliamura grabbed attention after successfully cultivating a new variety of paddy – importantly the farmers tasted the success with their own initiatives and without depending on government assistance.
Siyaja Kaipeng – one of the farmers of Kaipeng Para Ward No 5 under Sardukarkari ADC Village in Teliamura RD Block commented they cultivated a new variety of paddy, namely the Diamond variety and they are expecting a good return.
Kaipeng families of the village are well educated but they rely less on getting a government job, instead, focus more on farming activities for a livelihood.
Regarding the cultivation of the Diamond variety of paddy, Siyaja Kaipeng said he bought the new variety of paddy seeds from Teliamura at his own initiative. Later he cultivated that paddy on his two acres of agri land. At present, he is harvesting the paddy.
Siyaja Kaipeng also said, it is for the first time that other farmers of the area have also cultivated this new variety of paddy. According to him, the yield of the Diamond variety paddy is quite good.
“This new variety of paddy seed is more profitable than other paddy seeds available in the market”, Siyaja said. He is hoping to reap a good profit compared to the other years
