Tamil star Dhanush and Malayalam megastar Mammootty’s highly anticipated film Om, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, has officially been announced. The action-packed drama, featuring Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela, is set for an October 16 release. The title teaser hints at a gripping red sanders smuggling storyline and possible sequel.
The makers of director Rajkumar Periasamy’s much-awaited film starring Tamil superstar Dhanush and Malayalam megastar Mammootty have officially unveiled the title of the project as Om. The announcement, made on Thursday, has generated immense excitement among fans, especially after the release of an action-packed title teaser that offered the first glimpse into the film’s storyline.
The makers also confirmed that Om will hit theatres worldwide on October 16 this year. Interestingly, the title carries the tagline Chapter 1, suggesting that the filmmakers may be planning a larger franchise or a sequel in the future.
The newly released title teaser hints at a gripping narrative set against the backdrop of red sanders smuggling. The teaser introduces Dhanush as a woodcutter whose life appears closely connected to the workers involved in cutting red sanders. The visuals show police personnel cracking down on illegal logging activities and holding the workers at gunpoint. However, Dhanush’s character emerges as a saviour, stepping in to rescue them and setting the stage for what appears to be a high-octane action drama.
Speaking at the title teaser launch event, Wunderbar Films head Sreyas revealed that Om is among the biggest-budget productions in Dhanush’s illustrious career. He further stated that the film would bring back the “mass vintage Dhanush” that fans have long been eager to see on the big screen.
The project had previously been referred to as D55, as it marks the 55th film in Dhanush’s acting career. Ever since its announcement, the film has attracted widespread attention from cinema lovers across South India and beyond.
Adding to the excitement is the presence of an impressive supporting cast. The film features popular actresses Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in leading roles. Music for the film has been composed by the fast-rising Sai Abhyankkar, while cinematography is handled by Ezhil Arasu. Editing responsibilities have been entrusted to Kalaivanan R, and costume design is being overseen by Kavya Sriram.
The inclusion of Mammootty in the project has also been a major talking point. Earlier, when the Malayalam superstar officially joined the cast, Wunderbar Films extended a warm welcome through social media, expressing their excitement about collaborating with one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated actors.
Director Rajkumar Periasamy had also shared an emotional message welcoming Mammootty to the project. In his post, he described the veteran actor’s approval of the script as a blessing and expressed his enthusiasm about witnessing Mammootty and Dhanush share screen space together.
Responding to the warm reception, Mammootty conveyed his happiness about joining the venture and expressed excitement about working alongside Dhanush and director Rajkumar Periasamy.
The production has gained further momentum with R Take Studios recently announcing its partnership with Wunderbar Films for the project. With two major stars, a strong supporting cast, an intriguing storyline, and a grand production scale, Om is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated South Indian films of the year.
