Ace director Lokesh Kanagaraj makes his acting debut in Arun Matheswaran’s gritty gangster drama DC, co-starring Wamiqa Gabbi. Produced by Sun Pictures, the film features music by Anirudh and is set for a 2025 theatrical release.

In a major announcement that has set Tamil cinema abuzz, Sun Pictures on Saturday unveiled the title of director Arun Matheswaran’s highly anticipated film starring ace filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj in his debut acting role. The film, now officially titled ‘DC’, promises to be a gritty gangster drama featuring Lokesh in a never-seen-before avatar alongside actress Wamiqa Gabbi, who plays the female lead.

The production house revealed the title through a power-packed teaser on social media, captioning it:

“Sun Pictures proudly presents #DC starring @Dir_Lokesh & #WamiqaGabbi. Directed by @ArunMatheswaran. An @anirudhofficial musical.”

The teaser, lasting just under a minute, has already stirred excitement among fans. It introduces Lokesh Kanagaraj as Devdas and Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra, two characters whose paths intertwine in what appears to be a dark and violent underworld. The visuals hint at a raw, emotionally intense story steeped in passion, vengeance, and survival.

The teaser begins with Devdas emerging from a shadowy corridor, his face bloodied and bruised, clutching a dagger. On the other hand, Chandra is seen walking through a dimly lit room, casually picking up a condom packet before stepping out — a symbolic gesture that seems to hint at the film’s bold tone. The background score by Anirudh Ravichander heightens the mood, adding to the air of mystery surrounding the film.

While the makers have remained tight-lipped about the plot, the teaser’s aesthetics strongly suggest that ‘DC’ will delve deep into the underbelly of crime and passion — a genre both Arun Matheswaran and Lokesh Kanagaraj are familiar with.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s First Step as an Actor

Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for delivering cinematic hits like Kaithi, Vikram, and the Leo universe, is now stepping into the shoes of an actor for the very first time. Industry insiders reveal that Lokesh was drawn to the script’s intensity and Arun Matheswaran’s distinctive storytelling style.

According to sources, the director-turned-actor underwent rigorous martial arts training in Thailand shortly after completing Superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which hit theaters worldwide on August 14 this year. The training was reportedly focused on enhancing his combat skills and physical agility for his role as Devdas in DC.

A Powerful Team Behind the Scenes

‘DC’ boasts an impressive technical crew. The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, whose association with both Lokesh and Arun has consistently produced chart-topping soundtracks. Cinematography is handled by Mukesh G, editing by G K Prasanna, and art direction by Kannan S.

The dialogues are penned by Arun Matheswaran and Franklin Jacob, while Arun Ranjan contributes to the additional screenplay. Together, this team aims to craft a gritty yet poetic cinematic experience that aligns with Matheswaran’s trademark tone seen in films like Rocky and Saani Kaayidham.

Production and Release Plans

Produced by Sun Pictures, one of South India’s leading production houses, the film is currently in its final phase of shooting. Sources close to the unit indicate that the filming is progressing swiftly and is expected to wrap up by January next year. Post-production will follow immediately, with the film likely targeting a mid-to-late 2025 theatrical release.

Given the creative pedigree involved — Lokesh’s cult following as a director, Arun Matheswaran’s unique narrative style, and Anirudh’s magnetic music — DC is being touted as one of the most awaited Tamil films of 2025.
