The Ministry of Culture organised a one-day Level-I Capacity-Building Programme to conserve and promote India’s rich cultural heritage in New Delhi yesterday. The Programme was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and was held as part of the nationwide series All-India Gram Sabhas scheduled for 26th next month, under the Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar (MGMD) scheme.

The Culture Ministry, in a statement, said that the initiative seeks to further strengthen the systematic documentation of India’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage under the scheme, while also creating new avenues for revitalising the rural economy through heritage-led engagement. Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Vivek Agarwal, inaugurated the programme and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Rajesh Kumar Singh, also attended the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Agrawal described the initiative as an effort to ensure a strong digital presence for India’s villages and presented a five-point framework for enriching the MGMD portal through participatory rural appraisal and collaborative documentation. Meanwhile, the Panchayati Raj Secretary highlighted the crucial role of Panchayati Raj Institutions in cultural mapping, noting their long-standing experience and engagement at the grassroots level. He urged the trainers to ensure timely implementation, continuous monitoring, and on-ground guidance to achieve wide coverage and meaningful outcomes.
