Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasised on the need on inculcating a sense of unity in diversity -a unique feature of the country -to strengthen nationwide fraternity.

Chowdhury was speaking at a programme – ‘Bharat Ko Jano’ at Agnibina Hall in Jirania today which was jointly organized by North-East Zonal Cultural Centre, Dimapur Ministry of Culture, Union Government and ICA of the State.

Artists of Assam, Manipur, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura showcased cultural activities in the programme.

In his inaugural speech, Chowdhury said, “there are several unholy powers which are attempting to break the unity of the country in the name of race and religion. It is our duty to preserve the unity among us defeating the ill-attempts. To nurture the unity, culture can play the crucial role”, Chowdhury said.

Detailing the role of culture, the Minister said, the more cultural exchanges will take place, the more the conspirators will be sidelined. “The Prime Minister has taken initiative to organize such programmes to strengthen the tradition of unity”, he said.

He stressed the need to come out of a self-centric mentality and shun the notion that we do not have time to think about others. We are habituated to listening to Unity in Diversity – we have stride forward keeping faith in this.

“Whatever is needed for the betterment of the country, we will do it – let this be our target and responsibility”, he commented.

Among others, vice chairman of Jirania Panchayat Samiti Pritam Debnath and member of the North-East Zonal Cultural Centre Subrata Chakraborty were present in the programme.
