As part of a week-long campaign initiated by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI-M, a protest program was organized on Monday at Math Chowmani market in the capital city. This joint initiative was led by the CPI-M East Agartala Local Committee and Madhya Banamalipur Local Committee.
The protestors rallied the common people to come forward, join the demonstration, and voice their concerns regarding what they perceive as the misrule and misgovernance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
Addressing the gathered crowd, CPI-M leaders expressed their worries about the escalating prices of essential commodities, acute shortages of drinking water and electricity, unemployment, and the plight of thousands of jobless youths.
Quoting a statement by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, made during a by-election campaign in Dhanpur, where he acknowledged that the CPI-M works for the welfare of the people, a senior CPI-M leader remarked, “Now, the Chief Minister, who is also a BJP leader, is admitting that Communists work for the welfare of the people.”
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government, CPIM State Committee member Amal Chakraborty stated, “Before coming to power in 2014, Prime Minister Modi made several promises to the citizens of India. Similarly, prior to assuming power in Tripura, a multitude of promises were outlined in BJP’s Vision Document. However, none of them have been fulfilled.”
Chakraborty continued, “Whether it’s the promise of creating 2 crore jobs annually by Narendra Modi, or providing 50,000 government jobs in the first year, employment in every household, jobs through missed calls, and many more commitments for Tripura, none have materialized to date.”
He further alleged that, “Instead of improving the livelihoods of the people, the BJP government has pushed the lives of citizens into darkness. Soaring prices of essential goods and the lack of basic amenities such as drinking water and electricity have compounded the hardships faced by the common people.”
The CPI-M called upon the BJP government to ensure the provision of essential services to the populace, addressing their pressing concerns.
The protest event saw the participation of prominent leaders, including CPIM East Agartala Region Committee secretary Sanjay Das and Madhya Banamalipur Region Committee secretary Lipika Das, underscoring the party’s determination to advocate for the welfare of the people and hold the government accountable for its promises and actions.
