Covid surge has taken the ominous turn with first death of the current wave being reported on Sunday.
There were also 290 new positive cases and there was an obvious upward trend of positivity rate across the state. According to the official statement out of the total 2546 samples tested, Covid infection was found in the samples of 290 persons; the positive rate is 11.39 per cent.
West Tripura district like the previous days remaind the most susceptible with 157 new cases being reported on Sunday. West District was followed by Sepahijala 33 cases, Khowai 12 cases, Gomati 26 cases, South Tripura 20 cases, Dhalai 15 cases, Unakoti 6 cases and North Tripura 21 cases.
With the increasing covid cases at present total figure being 1282 hospitalization of Covid-infected patients of all every age groups was also being reported.
What, however, was most worrying that there was still a visible lack of Covid appropriate behaviour of the citizens. While most were found to be not wearing masks , nor anyone seemed interested in maintaining physical distance in the public places.
The administration though sought support from all members of the society- individually and collectively, there was no measures yet taken to enforce the Covid guidelines and protocols strictly.
In the meantime another report said India today crossed the milestone of administering two billion doses of COVID-19 vaccine within 18 months of launching the vaccination drive in January last year.
World Health Organisation, WHO has hailed India for administering over two billion COVID-19 vaccine doses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated all Indians on crossing the special figure of administering 200 crore COVID vaccine doses. In a tweet, Mr Modi said India has created history again.
He said he is proud of those who contributed to making India’s vaccination drive unparalleled in scale and speed. Mr Modi added that this has strengthened the global fight against COVID-19.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said in a tweet that Indians have achieved this at a record pace, while unleashing reforms and protecting livelihoods through the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
