The objective of cooperatives is to make the people of the poor sections self-reliant. Prime Minister’s dream is a self-reliant India. Cooperatives need to play a more active role to build a self-reliant Tripura. Information and Cultural Affairs Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury said this at the annual general meeting of Jirania Cooperative Marketing Society Limited at Agni Beena Hall in Jirania on Tuesday.
The annual general meeting of this cooperative society was inaugurated by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Ratan Chakraborty. The chief guest, Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs, said that this cooperative society of Jirania has worked alongside the local people during the Covid pandemic. Besides, this cooperative society is also fulfilling its social responsibility through different programmes. At the programme, the sub-division has given assistance of 5 thousand rupees to 20 meritorious students from financially weak families.
Inaugurating the Annual General Meeting, Assembly Speaker Ratan Chakraborty said, Cooperatives is a movement. Mahatma Gandhi gave importance to cooperatives in economic development of rural people. He said that the country is moving in the right direction under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The central government has also taken up different schemes even for the last person of the country.
Arindam Basu, Chairman of Jirania Co-operative Marketing Society Limited, delivered the welcome address at the programme. Joint Director of Cooperative Department, Nikhil Chakraborty, Tripura Road Transport Corporation Chairman, Abhijit Deb, Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Limited Chairman, Samir Das, former Minister Jawahar Saha, Jirania Panchayat Samiti Chairman Manju Das, Vice Chairman Pritam Debnath, Jirania Nagar Panchayat Chairperson, Ratan Kumar Das, Vice Chairperson Rita Das, Chairperson of Ranir bazar Municipal Council, Aparna Shukla Das were present at the programme. A health camp was held on the occasion of the annual general meeting of the cooperative society.
