Rajinikanth’s action thriller Coolie gets its Hindi title — Coolie The Powerhouse. With just 50 days to go for its global release on August 14, the film features a stellar cast, exciting reunions, and high-octane action, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures.
With just 50 days left for the grand release of director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-awaited action thriller Coolie, starring the legendary Rajinikanth, a significant update has emerged. The makers have officially announced the title of the film’s Hindi version — Coolie The Powerhouse.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Sun Pictures, the production house backing the high-octane film. Marking the 50-day countdown, Sun Pictures released a powerful new poster featuring Rajinikanth and shared it on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The caption read, “Deva’s rage begins in 50 days! #CoolieIn50Days #Coolie in Hindi is now #CoolieThePowerhouse. #Coolie releasing worldwide August 14th.”
This clarification comes amidst recent speculation about the Hindi title of the film. A few days earlier, sections of the media had reported that the Hindi version might be titled Majdoor. However, the rumored title received a mixed response from netizens, prompting discussions across social media platforms. Ending all speculation, the makers have now confirmed Coolie The Powerhouse as the official Hindi title.
Coolie is shaping up to be a pan-Indian spectacle, headlined by Superstar Rajinikanth in a powerful role as ‘Deva’. The film promises a gripping action narrative revolving around the world of gold smuggling. Importantly, director Lokesh Kanagaraj has clarified that Coolie will be a standalone story and not part of his popular Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), known for films like Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.
Adding to the film’s massive appeal is its stellar multi-language cast. Apart from Rajinikanth, the movie features several major stars from different industries, including Telugu icon Nagarjuna, Kannada star Upendra, Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir, and veteran Tamil actor Sathyaraj. A special highlight of the film will be Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s cameo, adding a surprise element for Hindi audiences.
Also playing pivotal roles in the movie are actors Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, and Junior MGR, promising a well-rounded ensemble that will appeal across demographics and regions.
Behind the scenes, Coolie is helmed by a powerhouse technical team. Anirudh Ravichander, known for his chart-topping scores, is composing the music. Cinematography is handled by Girish Gangadharan, while editing duties are taken up by Philomin Raj. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the prestigious Sun Pictures banner.
One of the most talked-about aspects of Coolie is the reunion of Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj after nearly 38 years. The duo last shared screen space in the 1986 blockbuster Mr Bharath, where Sathyaraj memorably portrayed Rajinikanth’s father. Interestingly, Sathyaraj had previously turned down roles in some of Rajinikanth’s big-budget films like Sivaji and Enthiran. Their on-screen reunion adds a nostalgic layer of excitement for Tamil cinema fans.

Coolie also marks Rajinikanth’s 171st film, further cementing his legacy in Indian cinema. With the release scheduled for August 14, 2025 — just a day before India’s Independence Day — the film is expected to enjoy a massive opening, especially with the long holiday weekend.
As the countdown begins, Coolie The Powerhouse is not just another Rajinikanth film; it’s being billed as an all-India cinematic event — combining nostalgia, star power, and thrilling storytelling in one grand package.
