Congress finalizes strategy to contest all 28 Tripura ADC seats with regional allies, targeting BJP and TIPRA Motha. Candidate list soon as party focuses on tribal welfare, development agenda, and regaining political ground in hill areas.
The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee has intensified its electoral preparations for the upcoming Tripura ADC Elections 2026 by finalizing its strategy and candidate framework to contest all 28 seats in the crucial tribal council polls.
At a high-level organizational meeting held at Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Sunday, party president Ashish Kumar Saha, along with MLAs and senior leaders, confirmed that the party will field candidates across all constituencies. The move marks a significant push by Congress to reassert its political relevance in the tribal-dominated regions of the state.
According to party sources, the meeting focused on finalizing the list of candidates for all 28 seats of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. While the final list is yet to be officially published, Saha indicated that the names have been largely finalized and will be released soon after internal approvals from the Pradesh Congress Committee.
A key highlight of Congress’s strategy is its alliance with two smaller regional parties that wield influence in specific tribal pockets. Though the names of these parties have not been officially disclosed, the alliances are expected to play a decisive role in consolidating anti-incumbency votes against both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and its regional rival TIPRA Motha.
The ADC elections, scheduled for April 12, 2026, will elect 28 members, of which 25 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. This makes the contest highly significant in shaping tribal political representation and governance in the state. Historically, the hill areas have been a stronghold of regional forces, but Congress is aiming to regain lost ground through a combination of grassroots outreach and strategic alliances.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Saha emphasized the party’s commitment to a serious and focused campaign. “Congress treats every election with utmost importance. We will expose the failures of the government and present a clear vision for inclusive development. With the support of our regional allies, we are confident of defeating BJP and TIPRA Motha in the hills,” he said.
The Congress leadership believes that introducing fresh faces as candidates, combined with local alliances, will help reconnect with tribal voters who have shifted their support in recent years. Party insiders also revealed that the campaign will heavily focus on issues such as tribal welfare, infrastructure development, land rights, and grassroots empowerment.
