One woman, reported to be a Congress supporter, was alleged to have been brutally assaulted by some miscreants. She had to be hospitalized. Congress alleged that the assault was committed by BJP workers on Sunday as she declined to hand over her mobile in which she had captured a previous attack on the local party office.

The incident took place at Sachindralal area in Charipara (Badharghat).

TPCC president Birajit Sinha, who visited the woman along with AICC general secretary Szarita Laitphlang and former MLA Ashis Saha in the hospital,  alleged that earlier on Friday a group of BJP activists attacked the local Congress party office at Sachindralal and ransacked it. The woman who was present at the spot captured the entire incident in her mobile.

“The BJP activists who had vandalized the Congress office put sever pressure on the to hand over the mobile in which the video clip was captured. She declined and then met AICC leader Szarita Laitphlang at Congress Bhavan on Saturday. Laitphlang sent her to MLA Sudip Roy Barman,” Sinha said.

On Sunday the BJP activists came to her once again and asked for the mobile. This time when she declined again she was mercilessly assaulted. Sinha alleged that though police personnel from Amtali police station reached the spot soon after the information of the assault reached them. “But the miscreants once again assaulted her in front of the police”, Sinha alleged.

She was first taken to IGM hospital and then referred to GBP hospital. An FIR was lodged at Amtali police station.

Congress leaders demanded stern action against the culprits.
