Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Birajit Sinha today asserted that his party is the only alternative of the ruling BJP that has blatantly failed to live up to the expectations of electorates.

“Before polls, BJP promised to give 50,000 jobs per year but at the end of four years statistics shared by the information and cultural affairs minister are really disheartening. All the promises made by the BJP turned out to be empty and hollow”, said Sinha.

Taking potshots on the government, Sinha said, “Congress stands on the philosophy of India. I want to urge Congress workers of the state to strengthen protests against the BJP that is leaving no stones unturned to ruin the state. The autocratic mindset needs to get thwarted and for that we need to put up a united fight”.

Sinha along with other senior leaders attended a joining programme held at Belonia sub-division. Hundreds of Congress workers from different corners of South Tripura district attended the function. A protest rally was organized at Belonia against the rapidly rising prices of essential commodities.

Speaking during the event, ex-Minister Sudip Roy Barman said, “The state government is doing nothing for the welfare of the public. Be it salary increase of SSA teachers or hike in wages of tea garden workers, all these efforts were undertaken after the High Court of Tripura passed orders in this regard. We need to play our role to prevent such a situation. And, I want to suggest you all don’t fall back, note the names who are indulging in violence”.

Former minister Sudip Roy Barman, ex-MLA Asish Saha, AICC secretary and in-charge of Tripura Szaritha Lapthtalang also remained present in the programme. Later, a closed door meeting of Congress workers was also held at Congress Bhavan.
