Opposition Congress met Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and demanded an Election Commission probe into the violence that were committed in Tripura during and after the by-polls. A delegation of Congress led by former Union Minister Salman Khurshid met the CEC in Delhi on Wednesday.

They submitted a report to the CEC Rajiv Kumar on the violence committed in Tripura by BJP against the Congress. The report had been prepared by the Congress delegation that included MPs Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Gaurav Gogoi and Naseer Hussain to Tripura to take stock of the situation from ground zero.

“We have demanded an independent probe into the large scale violence in Tripura , especially in connection with the by-polls to four seats”, said Ajoy Kumar AICC incharge of Tripura.

“The BJP for the last few years let loose an organized political violence”, said Kumar during a press meet at AICC Headquarters.

Kumar along with Pawan Khera and Mohammed Khan accompanied Khurshid for the meeting with CEC.

“BJP always resorts to its default mode – violence- when it faces defeat and Tripura is a living example”, he said.

Giving details of the attacks on Congress allegedly by the BJP Kumar said, Congress offices and leaders came under relentless and protracted violence by the ruling party.

“The attacks are known by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. But did not take any action and it can be for two reasons — either they are afraid to talk about it or it is happening at their behest,” the AICC in charge of Tripura said.

Kumar pointed out that as many as 19 Congressmen, including Tripura PCC chief Birajit Sinha, were injured when BJP activists attacked Congress Bhavan after the results of the by-elections to the four Assembly seats in the state were declared. Police fired tear gas to disperse the mob.
