In a major boost to the opposition about 4000 political activists from various parties, mostly ruling BJP joined the Congress in Dharmanagar on Wednesday . PCC president Birajit Sinha , visiting Congress leaders MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Asish Saha and other district leaders were present in the programme.
Roy Barman , Saha, former party president Gopal Roy along with Sinha had been camping in the district for the last two days organizing series of meetings and embarking on political activities.
However, what came as a big morale booster for the Congress was the fact that among those who joined the party on Wednesday were also several important BJP leaders lfrom Dharmanagar, Kadamtala, Bagbasa, Yubarajnagar and Panisagar. The leaders included apart from BJP leader Shanta Datta also District Trinamool Congress president advocate Abdul Basit Khan.
The Congress leaders in this joining programme lambasted the BJP governments both in Tripura and also in Delhi for their ‘anti-people’ and pro rich policies.
The Congress leaders alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote off thousands of crores rupees of the rich industrialists while exploiting the poor in the name of tax collections.
They also referred to the increasing price hike and fuel price’s meteoric rise in the recent time.
“All their policies were to help and satisfy the corporates”, said the Congress leaders in the programme.
Congress sources said that bolstered by Wednesday’s response the Congress leaders , especially Sudip Roy Barman and Asish Saha would undertake similar visits in other districts of the state where they would pursue the workers from other parties to join the Congress.
