After the opposition CPI-M party, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Monday alleged of poll violence after the BJP’s electoral victory in four states. The PCC announced a gherao of the police headquarters here at Agartala to show protest against police role.

TPCC president Birajit Sinha addressed a press conference on Monday evening and alleged that their activists and offices had been targeted with political violence in the state after election results were declared on March 10 last.

He also expressed concern over the police role in the wake of the poll violence across the state and said that the congress party would gherao the police headquarters and seek justice for the violence victims. Sinha also threatened to call a strike in the coming day in Tripura in protest of the violence backed by the BJP.

He said that despite the fact that there were cases lodged against the activists of the ruling party members over the violence incidents, police were not taking any action against them.

Sinha said that the next executive committee meeting of the Congress scheduled to be held on March 22 would decide the schedules and strategy of the movement in near future.
