Tripura CM Dr. Saha announces ₹15,823 crore investments from 64 MoUs at the NER Consultation Program, highlighting ₹43 lakh crore potential for Northeast India. Focus on MSMEs, infrastructure, and policy reforms to boost regional economic growth.

The North Eastern Region (NER) Stakeholders’ Consultation Program, held recently at Hotel Polo Towers in Agartala, highlighted an unprecedented investment opportunity of ₹43 lakh crore for the Northeastern states. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who presided over the event, said the Rising North-East Investors Summit held earlier in New Delhi opened new doors for economic growth and development across the region.

DrSaha announced that significant developments are underway to strengthen the state’s industrial infrastructure through an $85.4 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Tripura emerged as a significant beneficiary from the summit, with 64 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed, totaling potential investments worth ₹15,823 crore. CM Saha informed that under the joint efforts of the Tripura Government and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), a total of 184 MoUs have been signed so far. Notably, more than 25% of these agreements have already been implemented.

The consultation program witnessed the presence of business leaders from across India, senior bureaucrats from Northeastern states, and stakeholders from various sectors. The event focused on shaping strategic investment pathways to harness the region’s economic capabilities.

Highlighting the participation of over 80 countries—including Japan, ASEAN nations, and several European countries—CM Saha stated that such international engagement points to Northeast India’s emergence as a future economic powerhouse.

He further added that Tripura has immense untapped potential in tourism, education, healthcare, agarwood, bamboo, and rubber. “By focusing on these core sectors and implementing investor-friendly reforms, we can position Tripura as an attractive destination for national and global investments,” said the Chief Minister.

To build a conducive environment for industrial growth, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to revisit and strengthen existing policies related to land acquisition, investment, and tax exemptions. He also underlined the role of subsidies in attracting businesses to the region.

A high-level task force has already been established to promote investments in Northeast India. Two meetings of the task force have been conducted, and a strategic roadmap is expected to be finalized within the next six months to transform the region into a robust investment hub.

CM Saha lauded the central government for its unwavering focus on infrastructure development in the Northeast. He noted that initiatives to enhance connectivity through railways, roads, airports, waterways, and digital networks are laying the foundation for industrial progress.

He also highlighted Tripura’s multiple investor-friendly policies, including the Industrial Investment Policy, IT Policy, Tourism Policy, Agarwood Policy, Startup Policy, and Electric Vehicle Policy. “Our policies are tailored to the unique potential of the state. We have also implemented 387 reforms under the Business Reforms Action Plan 2024,” CM Saha added.

Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma also addressed the gathering and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, describing the Northeastern states as the “Ashta Lakshmi”—eight forms of prosperity. She credited the Act East Policy and the region’s geographic proximity to Southeast Asia for unlocking fresh investment prospects.

Tripura Industrial Development Corporation Chairman Nabadal Banik was also present at the event. Delivering the welcome address, Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte said that Tripura’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has doubled over the past six years, attributing the growth to investor confidence and policy reforms.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Director of the Industries and Commerce Department, who expressed optimism about the future of investment in the Northeast and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to facilitating ease of doing business.
