CM Dr. Manik Saha emphasizes transparency, modernization, and strategic planning in the SC Cooperative Development Corporation to empower Scheduled Caste communities and promote inclusive socio-economic growth.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today highlighted the state government’s unwavering commitment to the development of every section of society, with particular emphasis on the Scheduled Caste (SC) community. Speaking at a review meeting of the Scheduled Caste Cooperative Development Corporation Limited, Dr. Saha underscored the importance of transparency, modernization, and effective management to accelerate the corporation’s role in empowering marginalized communities.
The meeting was held in Conference Hall No. 1 at the Secretariat, where Dr. Saha expressed that the SC Cooperative Development Corporation has a pivotal role in promoting self-reliance and socio-economic advancement for the Scheduled Caste community in the state. “In the past, the potential of such corporations was underutilized, but the current government is dedicated to running these institutions with utmost transparency and accountability,” he remarked.
Addressing senior officials and stakeholders, the Chief Minister stressed the urgent need to strengthen the corporation through strategic planning, adoption of modern management practices, and a humane, community-centric approach. He emphasized that effective governance combined with innovative development strategies would significantly improve the living standards of the Scheduled Caste population across the state.
During the session, Dr. Saha was briefed on the corporation’s ongoing initiatives and the current status of its programs. The Managing Director of the SC Cooperative Development Corporation, Jayanta Dey, presented a detailed report outlining the corporation’s history, challenges, and recent progress. He noted a critical milestone — the formation of a formal Board of Directors, which previously did not exist.
The newly constituted Board includes eight members and three official representatives, providing a robust governance framework to guide the corporation’s future endeavors. This step marks a significant shift towards institutional strengthening and better oversight.
The meeting was attended by key dignitaries, including Pinaki Das Choudhury, Chairman of the SC Cooperative Development Corporation; Dr. P. K. Chakraborty, Chief Minister’s Secretary; Apurba Roy, Secretary of the Finance Department; and Deepa D. Nair, Secretary of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department. Their active participation underscored the government’s holistic approach to integrating financial, administrative, and welfare aspects for the community’s upliftment.
Dr. Saha reiterated the government’s vision to build an inclusive society where every citizen, irrespective of their background, has access to opportunities and resources. “The modernization of the SC Cooperative Development Corporation is not just an administrative reform but a pathway to economic empowerment and social justice,” he said.
The Chief Minister also called for greater involvement of the corporation in facilitating skill development, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities for SC individuals, aiming to reduce socio-economic disparities. He urged the officials to work collaboratively, leveraging technology and innovative solutions, to make the corporation a model institution in the state.
