After scrutiny of nominations, as many as 821 candidates are in the contest of ensuing local body polls scheduled on November 25 next. However, the last date for withdrawal of nominations is November 8 next.
According to the State Election Commission report, while BJP has fielded candidates in all 334 seats, 124 TMC candidates, 212 CPI-M candidates, 100 Congress and 29 Independent candidates are also in the contest. The other candidates included CPI (6), RSP (2), AIFB (5) and others (9). Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 Municipal Councils and six Nagar Panchayats will go to polls on November 25 and the results will be declared on November 28 next.
The last date for submission of nominations was November 3 last while scrutiny of nomination was done on November 5. On the last day, 139 nominations were submitted. On the other hand, the last date for withdrawal of nominations is November 8 (till 3 pm).
During scrutiny, total eight nominations– two BJP, one TMC, two CPI-M, one Congress and two others– were rejected.
