Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the Wimbledon 2025 third round with a dominant straight-sets win over Oliver Tarvet. Extending his 20-match winning streak, Alcaraz looks to defend his title and chase history as he aims for a third consecutive Wimbledon crown and the rare Roland Garros-Wimbledon double.

Carlos Alcaraz continued his dominant run at Wimbledon 2025 with a clinical straight-sets victory over British qualifier Oliver Tarvet on Centre Court on Wednesday. The Spaniard, seeded second and the two-time defending champion, dispatched Tarvet 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in just over two hours, sealing his place in the third round and extending his grass-court supremacy.

After surviving a five-set thriller in his opening match against veteran Fabio Fognini, Alcaraz showed no signs of fatigue or nerves in his second-round clash. He unleashed his trademark mix of power, finesse, and tactical variety, which overwhelmed the 21-year-old Brit, who was making his Grand Slam debut.

Alcaraz broke Tarvet’s serve six times and fired 37 winners during the match, leaving little room for the young Brit to mount any real threat. The World No. 2’s commanding performance not only reaffirmed his title credentials but also marked another milestone in his blossoming career.

According to the ATP, the win against Tarvet extended Alcaraz’s career-best winning streak to 20 matches and brought his total grass-court victories to 31. Notably, after his opening-round win over Fognini, Alcaraz became the fastest player in the Open Era to reach 30 grass-court wins—an extraordinary feat at just 21 years old.

The victory also preserved his perfect Wimbledon run, with 16 consecutive wins at the All England Club. Alcaraz is now on a mission to defend the title he won in both 2023 and 2024. Should he succeed this year, he would become only the fifth man in history to secure three Wimbledon titles in a row.

More impressively, Alcaraz is chasing a historic double. After claiming the 2025 Roland Garros crown last month, he is aiming to become just the second male player—after tennis legend Bjorn Borg—to complete the French Open-Wimbledon double in consecutive years.

Although the scoreboard showed a lopsided result, Tarvet’s effort was commendable. The 21-year-old wildcard, who plays collegiate tennis at the University of San Diego, captured the attention of the home crowd with his fighting spirit. After coming through the qualifiers and scoring a memorable first-round win over Leandro Riedi, Tarvet gave a spirited account of himself on Centre Court.

He thrilled British fans with a handful of spectacular passing shots in the second set and managed to hold his nerve on several pressure points. However, Alcaraz’s relentless pace and unshakable composure proved too much for the young Brit to handle. Despite the defeat, Tarvet leaves Wimbledon with valuable experience and the support of an energized home audience.

Looking ahead, Alcaraz will face a tougher test in the third round against either Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime or Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff—both seasoned grass-court players capable of pushing top seeds. Nonetheless, Alcaraz enters the next round with a wealth of momentum and the aura of an unstoppable champion.

With each match, Alcaraz’s legend continues to grow. Already a five-time Grand Slam champion, he is now firmly on course to add another chapter to his historic Wimbledon journey. His composure, athleticism, and champion mentality are setting new benchmarks in men’s tennis.

As the tournament heads into its crucial stages, the spotlight remains firmly on the Spanish prodigy—still just 21 years old, but already writing his name alongside the greats of the game.
