BSE Sensex falls 304 points to close at 74,346

Benchmark domestic equity indices ended with moderate losses today. The BSE Sensex dropped 304 points to close at 74,346. The NSE Nifty slipped 78 points to settle at 23 thousand and 406. The broader market at the National Stock Exchange also ended in negative zone. The Midcap 100 index fell over 0.4 per cent, and the Smallcap 100 index dipped 0.1 per cent. 
 
Earlier today, markets witnessed decline of more than one per cent as sentiment remained under pressure amid uncertainty surrounding US-Iran negotiations, rising crude oil prices, and continued foreign fund outflows. However, as the day progressed, both indices recovered a significant portion of their intraday losses, supported by value buying at lower levels.
 
In the Sensex pack, shares of 17 out of 30 companies registered losses. Among the top underperformers, TCS tanked over 8.4 per cent, Tech Mahindra plunged more than 6.2 per cent, and HCL Tech lost more than 5.2 per cent. In contrast, Indigo jumped 1.6 per cent, SBI climbed 1.4 per cent, and ICICI Bank advanced 1.3 per cent. 
 
In the sectoral indices at the BSE, 13 out of 25 sectors ended in negative territory. The Focused IT sector emerged as the biggest drag, plunging over 5.2 per cent, followed by IT, which shed five per cent. Realty also dropped over one and a half per cent.
 
Among the top gainers, telecommunications surged two per cent, PSU Banks climbed more than 1.7 per cent, and Bankex as well as Hospitals rose 0.9 per cent. The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative, as shares of 2 thousand 400 companies declined, 1 thousand 812 advanced, and 174 remained unchanged.
