Brutal attack on a Trinamool Congress supporting family in poll bound Surma constituency allegedly by BJP activists had hit the hornet’s nest. The incident took place on Wednesday night after some of the locals joined the TMC in a programme. The TMC immediately pulled all the strings and send a delegation of its MPS to the Election Commission to lodge complaints. Apart from that TMC also pushed the matter at all India levels and moved the media across the country to press its point that ruling BJP was resorting to violence.

The incident took place at Katal Bari area and the house of one Braballabh Malakar when a group of armed miscreants reportedly BJP workers stormed in to the house. They severely beat Brajaballabh Malakar and other family members including an eight years old child Tapas .

While BJP state unit president Subal Bhowmik wrote to the Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte and also to the police, a six-member delegation of the Trinamool Congress on Thursday led by MP Saugata Roy visited Election Commission and submitted a memorandum in connection with the violence in Tripura. Dev , an MP also wrote to DGP V S Yadav asking him to take necessary actions.

The memorandum alleged that attack on their party members was made by state’s ruling BJP ‘goons’ ahead of the assembly by polls in four constituencies. The party also alleged a conspiracy by the BJP to carry out more such attacks on its workers.

The TMC alleged that some goons attacked the party members assembled for a meeting on June 15 at the behest of BJP candidate from the Surma Assembly constituency Swapna Das (Paul) and other BJP leaders.

“We had a long meeting with Chief Election Commissioner. We complained to him about incidents of Tripura last night when about 70 families who had joined TMC in Surma assembly constituency were attacked by BJP goons. Five were seriously injured”, said Roy after the meeting.

He said that they were ensured that all booths will be under CCTV & webcast. Six companies of central forces will be given for each assembly constituency, the Trinamool MP said.

The delegation comprised Saugata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Jawhar Sircar, Pratima Mondal, Luizinho Faleiro, and Nusrat Jahan Ruhi.

The bypolls will be held in Agartala, Town Bardowali, Yubarajnagar and and Surma assembly constituencies in Tripura on June 23 and the counting of votes will be taken up on June 26.

In Agartala also TMC leaders including Bhowmik, MP Sushmita Dev, Rajib Banerjee and others held press conferences and criticised the BJP and the government for the violence.
