New Capital Complex Police on Tuesday arrested Brown Sugar kingpin Mridul Ghosh from his residence here in Agartala city in connection with a case registered with the Santirbazar police station, police said.
Speaking on the issue, OC NCC Police Station Subir Malakar said, “Yesterday we had been tipped off by Santirbazar Police regarding Ghosh. As per the details we received, we raided the residence of the accused located behind Ginger Hotel, Agartala but he was absconding. Today, we arrested him from Lake Chowmuhani market. Ghosh is an accused in a case number 09/2022 of Santirbazar police station”.
On being contacted, SDPO Santirnazar Biswajit Debbarma said, “Ghosh is a noted drug dealer and he used to mainly operate in South Tripura district. Entire supply of the district was under his control and it took a long time to reach him”.
According to Debbarma, recently a big haul of Brown Sugar stuffed in 580 small vials seized in Santirbazar which ultimately led the police till Ghosh.
“We arrested Hiralal Debnath with the consignment. During interrogation he revealed the name of one Pankaj, his direct upper arm in the nexus. Accordingly, Pankaj was picked up and after prolonged investigation, we came to know about Ghosh. According to the evidence available with us, he has direct links with Mizoram based drug lords”, the police official added.
His house was raided a number of times but alert Ghosh escaped. Devising modern tracking technology he was arrested from his hideout close to Lake Chowmuhani market, said police.
Ghosh denied all the charges and said that he was being falsely implicated in the case.
