Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council , a proscribed militant organization of Meghalaya detonated a blast in Shillong on Tuesday afternoon. Two two persons, including a woman were injured the blast. The Improvised Explosive Device was detonated at Laitumkhrah market. The injured were rushed to Nazareth Hospital which is located at Laitumkhrah only.
It is suspected that the IED was a timed device and was buried at the market place.
Due to the blast some shops bore the brunt and some building window panes were shattered, according to East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger. A massive manhunt was launched to round up the HNLC members responsible for the blast. Senior police officials visited the spot.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in a tweet, said: “Home Minister Lahkmen R and officials of Meghalaya police have apprised me on the matter and further investigation is being carried out.”
HNLC is a Khasi militant organization which was active some years ago but presently was keeping a low profile.
