Tripura CM Manik Saha reaffirms BJP–Tipra Motha alliance ethics at Agartala meeting with Tarun Chugh and Vinod Sonkar, focusing on TTAADC polls strategy and Special Intensive Review of electoral rolls.
In a political development ahead of the crucial TTAADC elections, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday reiterated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s firm commitment to maintaining “coalition dharma” with its ally, Tipra Motha. The statement came during a high-level organisational training session held at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala.
The meeting witnessed the presence of key BJP leaders, including National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and National Secretary Vinod Sonkar. Also in attendance were Tripura BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, cabinet ministers, MLAs, and senior party functionaries.
Alliance Strategy Yet to Be Finalised
Addressing the media, Chief Minister Saha made it clear that the BJP would not compromise on the principles of alliance politics. “We are prepared to respect and observe the coalition dharma. I have said it earlier as well,” he asserted.
When asked about seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming TTAADC elections, the Chief Minister stated that no final decision has been made yet. He emphasized that the BJP’s central leadership would take the final call. “Nothing is final yet. Our guardians in Delhi shall decide on the appropriate formation for contesting the polls,” he added.
This statement underscores the BJP’s cautious and strategic approach as it navigates alliance dynamics with Tipra Motha, a key regional player in Tripura’s tribal politics.
Focus on Special Intensive Review (SIR)
A major highlight of the organisational session was the discussion on the upcoming Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls. The exercise, conducted by the Election Commission of India, is expected to begin shortly in the state.
Chief Minister Saha emphasized the importance of the initiative, particularly given Tripura’s geographical proximity to Bangladesh. “Since we are surrounded by Bangladesh from three sides, this exercise is very crucial for us,” he noted.
He reassured citizens that genuine voters need not worry. “Those who already have their or their parents’ names in the electoral rolls only need to fill out a single form,” he explained.
Training Party Cadres for Public Assistance
The organisational meeting was primarily aimed at equipping BJP leaders and workers with the necessary knowledge and tools to assist the public during the SIR process. The Chief Minister stressed that party workers must ensure that no eligible voter faces difficulties during the verification process.
“Our workers should be prepared and proactive. This training is meant to ensure that genuine voters receive proper guidance and support,” Saha said.
Unity and Future Political Resolve
Echoing similar sentiments, Tripura minister Santana Chakma highlighted the importance of unity within the party. She stated that the organisational meeting has strengthened the party’s resolve for future political challenges.

According to her, the presence of top national and state leadership has infused renewed energy among party members. “This unity within the party will further expand the path of public welfare,” she remarked.
Political Significance
The meeting comes at a crucial juncture as Tripura gears up for the TTAADC polls, which are expected to be closely contested. The BJP’s emphasis on coalition ethics and organisational preparedness signals a calculated effort to consolidate its position while maintaining alliance harmony.
