Even as the counting in the AMC and all other 13 civic bodies began in the morning at 8 am on Sunday, BJP has clearly registered its clean sweep in all the centres. Already several wards in AMC like that of 36, 34, 18 BJP candidates won in Khowai BJP routed all other parties and captured the Muncipal Council with 15-0 count.

The trend of the results are on expected line.

As the blanket security arrangements were put in place there was no report of any untoward incident in any part of the state as yet. BJP leadership on Saturday asked all its workers and supporters to maintain restraint and not to fall into the ‘trap of the opposition’.

Counting will be conducted in 13 counting centres across the State.

In Agartala for the AMC  counting  is going on at Umakanta English Medium School and three counting halls were set up, SDM Sadar Ashim Saha said
Top officials of the West district administration – DM Debapriya Bardhan, SP of West district Manik Das and SDM Ashim Saha – visited the Counting centre at Umakanta English Medium school and inspected the preparedness on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, DM of West Debapriya Bardhan said, counting to the AMC Polls will be conducted in three halls under three returning Officers of the Sadar division.

“We have already taken all the steps as per guidelines of the Election Commission and imposed Section 144 around the counting centre”, the DM said.   

The West District administration has announced Sunday as the ‘dry day’ to maintain law and order in the District.

Meanwhile, tight security arrangements have been for the maintenance of law and order during the counting of votes across the State. Prohibitory Sec 144 has been imposed in different parts of the State.

“A three-tier security arrangement has been made for each of counting centre by deploying CAPF as well as State Police/TSR personnel”, a press release issued by the Police administration mentioned. Apart from deploying sufficient TSR personnel, CAPF jawans have been deployed for maintenance of law and order duty in the adjoining areas of the counting centres, the press release mentioned.

Tripura Police have appealed to the citizen not to pay heed to any kind of rumours and maintain peace and tranquillity during and after the counting of votes.  

Along with the Returning Officers, the candidates of different political parties including the representatives or the agents will be allowed to sit inside the counting halls.

Tripura went for polls to 14 civic bodies – Agartala Municipal Corporation, seven Municipal Councils and six Nagar Panchayats – of the state on November 25 last.
