BJP MLA Dr Atul Debbarma quits, to fight as independent
BJP MLA Dr Atul Debbarma who was denied party’s nomination this time from Krishnapur Constituency submitted his resignation on Monday. He would now fight the elections as independent.
Dr Debbarma who was a flourishing medical profession in Delhi came to Tripura before the 2018 polls at the invitation from the BJP and contested. He won the polls.
On Monday Dr Debbarma wrote a letter the Tripura Legislative assembly Speaker: “I humbly submit that am resigning from the post of Member of Tripura legislative Assembly from 29 Krishnapur Assembly Constituency”.
“I am submitting my resignation consciously and in sound mind. Therefore, I request you to accept my resignation with immediate effect”, he added.
Later, in another letter addressed to the State president Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Dr Atul Debbarma wrote, “I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of Bharatiya Janata Party and all other posts and responsibilities of the party with immediate effect”.
“Therefore, I request you to accept my resignation from the above mentioned memberships and posts and oblige”, read the letter.
Dr Debbarma in his social media platforms gave vent to his frustration.
“Was not interested in politics and kept denying for three years. But later, when offered for the fifth time, I left my two daughters and wife all alone for serving the people”.
“Before being thrown away in the middle of river, I was not even given the reason for it”, he wrote in Bengali.
