BJP’s Tribal Morcha State President, Parimal Debbarma, launched a scathing attack on the opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), accusing it of misleading the people of Tripura and attempting to stir communal tensions. Addressing a press conference at the BJP Dhalai district office in Ambassa on Saturday afternoon, Debbarma criticized the CPM for what he termed as its divisive tactics and history of disrupting peace in the state.
Debbarma alleged that the CPM has consistently tried to spread confusion among the masses. “The word ‘Lal’ (red) itself signifies danger, and their sole intention is to create unrest and communal disharmony,” he remarked. He further asserted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the state has been witnessing significant development, while the CPM, devoid of any substantive political agenda, is resorting to fear-mongering.
Refuting allegations made by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury against Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Debbarma claimed that the accusations would not mislead the politically aware citizens of Tripura. He also reminded the public that the CPM was decisively rejected in the 2018 elections and expressed confidence that people would not fall for their “baseless propaganda.”
Meanwhile, in Agartala, the ruling BJP took a strong stance against the opposition, labeling the CPM as a ‘terrorist-sponsored party’ that allegedly seeks to disrupt peace in the state. At a separate press conference held at the BJP headquarters, party leader and MDC Padmalochan Tripura accused the CPI(M) of engaging in a malign campaign against the BJP-led government to create unrest.
“The CPI(M) is issueless and is desperately trying to disturb the peace and harmony prevailing in Tripura. They have never been in favor of development and peace, which is why they are spreading misinformation against the BJP government,” said Padmalochan Tripura.
The BJP leader’s comments come in response to a recent argument in the state assembly between Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury over Nath’s use of the word ‘Jaat’ (community). The opposition had accused Nath of making a remark that hurt tribal sentiments, a charge the BJP has strongly denied. According to Padmalochan Tripura, “Minister Ratan Lal Nath was referring to the CPI(M) when he used the term ‘Jaat’ and did not insult tribal sentiments as claimed by the opposition.”
Reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to the welfare of indigenous tribes in Tripura, he emphasized that the state government had allocated an adequate budget for tribal development. “The BJP believes in the upliftment of indigenous communities, unlike the CPI(M), which has historically neglected them,” he stated.
Going a step further, the BJP leader alleged that the CPI(M) was acting as an “agency of China and Pakistan” and was attempting to revive terrorism in the state. “People will never trust this terrorist-sponsored CPI(M). Their actions suggest that they want to destabilize Tripura, but the people are now aware of their intentions,” he said.
The political confrontation between the BJP and CPI(M) has intensified, with both parties exchanging sharp accusations over governance, communal harmony, and the political direction of the state. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how these allegations will impact the political landscape in Tripura in the coming months.
