The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has achieved a significant milestone by nearly doubling its membership compared to its last enrollment drive in 2019. The party registered 11.91 lakh members during the recently concluded drive, marking a remarkable increase from the 6.50 lakh members enrolled four years ago, according to BJP leader Bhagaban Chandra Das.
Das, the state in-charge of the membership drive and a former minister, shared that out of the total, 9.41 lakh members were registered online, while 2.50 lakh opted for offline enrollment. He attributed this surge in membership to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pro-people initiatives and welfare measures. “People from all walks of life, including tribals, Scheduled Caste communities, women, farmers, youths, workers, and service holders, have enthusiastically joined the party,” he said.
Das, who is also a BJP MLA, explained that the membership drive sets the stage for a robust organizational structure within the state. Elections to 3,349 party booths have already commenced, with subsequent elections scheduled for the Mandal, district, and state levels. These organizational elections are expected to bolster the party’s foundation ahead of future political challenges.
Former Lok Sabha MP and BJP Tripura in-charge, Rajdeep Roy, highlighted the importance of this achievement. He stated that the party had set a target to enroll 12 lakh members in Tripura during the drive launched on September 3. Achieving close to the target is being celebrated as an outstanding organizational success under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha and state BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee.
“The enrollment of such a large number of members demonstrates the faith people have in the BJP’s leadership and vision. Tripura is now being placed alongside states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Assam in terms of achieving membership goals set by the central leadership,” Roy said.
The membership drive includes both fresh enrollments and renewals, with active members to be selected from the pool for participation in organizational elections. Roy also emphasized the crucial role these members will play in strengthening the party’s grassroots presence.
Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming public response to the membership campaign. Speaking at the Bardowali Mandal during the drive, Saha stated that the enthusiasm among the people reflects their trust in the BJP. “This spontaneous response to the membership drive will further solidify the BJP’s foundation in Tripura,” he said.
The BJP’s strategic focus on expanding its base in Tripura comes as part of its broader plan to solidify its hold in northeastern states. By increasing its membership, the party is not only building a larger support base but also preparing for future elections with an expanded organizational network.
With this significant achievement, the BJP in Tripura has demonstrated its growing influence and organizational strength, solidifying its position as a dominant political force in the state.
