The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended its heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their unwavering support during the unprecedented flood situation in Tripura. The BJP’s state leadership highlighted the prompt and effective response of the Central government in addressing the crisis, which began on August 19.
In a press conference held at the BJP state headquarters on Saturday, BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty lauded the Central government’s decisive action. “The way the Central government, under the leadership of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has come forward to rescue the flood-affected people is commendable. We thank them for their timely assistance,” Chakraborty said. He noted that the Centre had approved a relief fund of Rs 40 crore in response to the Tripura government’s appeal, which significantly bolstered the ongoing relief efforts.
The spokesperson also praised Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for his relentless efforts in managing the flood crisis. “The Chief Minister and his team have left no stone unturned to tackle the situation. Dr. Manik Saha has been closely monitoring the situation from the very beginning and has maintained continuous communication with the Central government to ensure effective rescue and relief operations,” Chakraborty added.
Acknowledging the efforts of the BJP state unit, Chakraborty thanked state BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee for his role in coordinating the party’s relief and rescue activities. “Our karyakartas, under the guidance of our state president, have done a commendable job in supporting the flood victims,” he said.
BJP state general secretary Amit Rakshit, also present at the briefing, provided an initial estimate of the flood damage, stating that the losses incurred could amount to Rs 5000 crore. The floods, which have been described as the worst in recent history, have caused significant devastation across the state.
