BJP’s Rajya Sabha candidate and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb filed his nomination on Monday at the Assembly secretariat. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Social Welfare Minister Santana Chakma, Union MoS Pratrima Bhowmik,. MP Rebati Tripura , BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, MLA Mimi Majumdar and several pother senior party leaders.
Before going to file the nomination Deb along with his wife visited the Sat Sangha Ashram and offer prayer there.
The election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat will take place on September 22 next.
Deb’s fight will be against opposition Left front candidate former minister Bhanu Lal Saha who also fought against Dr Manik Saha in the previous RS polls
While the victory of Deb is certain due to BJP and its ally IPFT’s strength in the assembly he is still expected to visit all the MLAs personally requesting them their vote. Of all the 60 MLA only Brishaketu Debbarma, IPFT MLA from Simna is unlikely to vote this time too. He resigned from the House following his joining the TIPRA Motha. But due to some formality etc Speaker Ratan Chakrabarty declined to accept the resignation paper. As such officially Debbarma still remains as an MLA but he stays away from all assembly activities.
The nomination to Rajya Sabha came at a time when there were speculations about Deb’s political position since his resignation from the Chief Minister’s post.
Apart from making Deb as in charge of Hariyana also made MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma as Prabhari for Tripura.
