Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s contribution in the Indian freedom struggle was significant. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the initiative to pay tribute to the glorious history and valour of Janajatis in a befitting manner through Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas, enunciated Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration programme at Khumwlwng Nuwai Auditorium yesterday. Chief Minister along with other guests commenced the programme by lighting the lamp. Then the Chief Minister launched 1,295 crore rupees project management unit for the sustainable development of life and infrastructure of the Janajatis with the financial assistance of World Bank.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in the programme said, previously the glorious history of tribal freedom fighters was kept neglected purposely.There was lack of sincerity about spreading awareness and paying tribute to the contributions of tribals including Bhagwan Birsa Munda. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi took needed initiative to pay tribute to the glorious history and valour of the Janajatis through Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas. Earlier there were no initiatives taken on spreading light on the life of Bhagwan Birsa Munda even after so many years of Indian Independence. Now, Tripura’s sons who laid their lives in the freedom struggle are now remembered with respect. But it took a long time to pay deserving tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The Janajatis were neglected in regards to their glorious history. He said, even Maharani Kanchan Prabha Devi had played a significant role in the merger of Tripura with Indian Union. The long-neglected development of the Northeast has been taken up speed with the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia in the programme said, Bhagwan Birsa Munda hailed from a poor family but he was a talented student. He saw and realised the need to free the nation from the oppression of the British Raj. He took part in Indian freedom struggle at his young age. We have a lot to learn from his life. The central and state government have taken different initiatives for the welfare of the Janajati people.
TTAADC CEMPurna Chandra Jamatia in the programme said, Birsa Munda was one of the courageous freedom fighters to have fought against British Raj. He is not only a hero for Munda community but for the whole nation and the world. MDC Ganesh Debbarma, TTAADC CEO C.K Jamatia and Director of Tribal Welfare department Vishal Kumar were present in the Khumwlwng programme.
In a separate programme of celebrating Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas at Tripureshwari temple premise in Udaipur yesterday, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said, like other brave Indian freedom fighters Birsa Munda also courageously led and fought against the oppression of the British. Chief Minister along with other guests paid floral tribute to the image of Birsa Munda. The programme followed with Hojagiri dance and other different activities. MLA Biplab Kumar Ghosh, TIDC Chairman Tinku Roy, Bru Sangrangma Vice President Birendra Reang and SamajAdhipatiBidyajoy Reang were present in the programme.
