Dhaka/IBNS: Bangladeshs interim government, headed by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, revoked the diplomatic passport of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday after she fled to India following massive student protests earlier this month, media reports said.

The move to cancel Sheikh Hasinas documents leaves the former Bangladeshi leader in potential limbo.

The decision came on the same day a United Nations team arrived in Dhaka to assess whether to investigate alleged human rights violations.

More than 450 people were killed, many of whom died in police fire, during the weeks leading up to Sheikh Hasinas ouster, with crowds storming her official residence in Dhaka and ending her 15-year regime.

Bangladeshs interior ministry said in a statement that Sheikh Hasinas passport and those belonging to former government ministers and ex-lawmakers no longer in their posts have to be revoked.

It also poses a diplomatic dilemma for Sheikh Hasinas current host-India, which has sheltered the Bangladeshi leader for days now.

Earlier it was reported that Hasina would seek political asylum in the UK.

Meanwhile, Hasinas US visa was also revoked, News18 reported earlier this month quoting insider sources close to the opposition in Bangladesh.
