Australia Script Historic Run Chase to Defeat India in Women’s ODI World Cup Thriller

Must Read

In the ICC Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup, India suffered defeat in a thrilling high-scoring match against Australia in Visakhapatnam last night. Despite a fantastic effort with the bat, India could not defend their massive total of 330 runs as Australia pulled off the highest-ever successful run chase in Women’s ODI history.

Earlier, choosing to bat first, India made an impressive score of 330 runs. The innings was anchored by two excellent performances. Star opener Smriti Mandhana smashed a fiery 80 runs off just 66 balls. During this knock, she also made history by becoming the first woman ever to score 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year. She was supported by Pratika Rawal, who added a solid 75 runs.

However, the Indian team lost their last six wickets very quickly for just 36 runs, which ultimately cost them valuable runs and possibly the match. Australian bowler Annabel Sutherland was the main reason for this collapse, finishing with brilliant figures of 5 wickets for 40 runs.

Chasing a 331 victory target, Australian opener Alyssa Healy scored 142 runs off only 107 balls. Ellyse Perry’s unbeaten 47 runs sealed the victory for Australia and handing India a heartbreaking loss.
