Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Wednesday said that they would seek the intervention of the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court soon into the attacks and undemocratic means that the ruling party was allegedly resorting to against the opposition workers and leaders.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday evening the Congress state in-charge Ajay Kumar alleged, “Since after the ex-BJP MLAs – Sudip Roy Barman and Ashish Kumar Saha came back to the Congress, the BJP started the politics of terrorism against the Congress.”
“We shall move to the HC Chief Justice and seek his direction to the Chief Minister who also holds the home portfolio to stop the BJP-backed terror tactics in the state,” Kumar told reporters.
He said that soon after both the ex-MLAs joined the Congress, the party had written to the DGP and sought security for them, but police failed to provide security to the two leaders.
The Congress leader blamed the Chief Minister on Wednesday and alleged, “Police are not allowing any political activities of the opposition parties including the Congress and they are unnecessarily harassing the opposition workers by lodging false complaints against them in an attempt to put them in jail.”
“The matter will be taken up in the High Court. The party will appeal to the Chief Justice to direct the state government to provide security to the party workers,” he said.
Dr Kumar on Wednesday visited the family members of the party workers who had been arrested in connection to the political clash on February 26 last. He however assured the family members of all possible assistance by the Congress party.
