Prime accused Roz Ali died in an Assam Police encounter in Nalbari’s Mukalmua area while allegedly attempting to escape arrest in the Gangapur attack case. The incident claimed the life of student leader Madhurjya Barman and critically injured another teenager, triggering widespread outrage and ongoing investigation.

The prime accused in the sensational Gangapur attack case, Roz Ali, died following an encounter with Assam Police in Nalbari district’s Mukalmua area on Monday while allegedly attempting to evade arrest. The development comes amid widespread public outrage over the brutal attack that claimed the life of a teenage girl and left another critically injured.

According to police officials, Roz Ali was one of the main accused in the attack that occurred on Saturday night near Gangapur under the jurisdiction of Mukalmua Police Station. The incident resulted in the death of 19-year-old Madhurjya Barman and left 18-year-old Mridumudra Deka battling for life with severe injuries.

Police sources stated that an intensive search operation had been launched immediately after the incident to track down the accused persons. During the operation, security personnel located Roz Ali in the Mukalmua area. Officials alleged that he attempted to flee while being apprehended, leading to an encounter in which he sustained serious injuries.

He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances of the encounter, and investigations into the case remain ongoing.

The tragic incident has shocked residents across Assam. Madhurjya Barman, a resident of Balipathar in Chamata, died at the scene after suffering severe injuries. Apart from being a student, she also served as the Assistant General Secretary of the West Nalbari Regional Students’ Union, making her death particularly significant among student and social organizations in the region.

Meanwhile, Mridumudra Deka, who sustained grievous injuries during the attack, was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Hospital sources said she remains under intensive medical care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where doctors continue to monitor her condition closely.

Investigators have named another accused, Ashik Ali, in connection with the attack. Police teams are continuing efforts to establish the complete sequence of events and determine the exact motive behind the crime.

The case has sparked widespread debate and public anger across Assam. Several local organizations and residents have alleged that the attack was linked to the rejection of a proposal by one of the accused. Some groups have described the incident as a case of “love jihad,” a term that has generated considerable discussion on social and political platforms.

However, police officials have cautioned against drawing premature conclusions. Authorities emphasized that no official confirmation has been made regarding any specific motive, including allegations related to “love jihad.” Investigators have stated that all possible angles are being examined and that conclusions will be based solely on evidence collected during the investigation.

The incident has prompted strong reactions from community leaders, student organizations, and residents, many of whom have demanded swift justice for the victims. Assam Police reiterated that the investigation remains active and that all those involved in the attack will be brought to justice through due legal process.
